Decision '08
Well, officially Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Obama Jr. will become the 44th President of the United States of America on January 20, 2009. Personally, I'm thrilled, but some of you might not be. There's a lot of work to be done, and hopefully President Obama can do it.

Talent Update!
I didn't know where else to put this, but... Halie and Lindsay were in One Acts tonight. They did really good. You should all go see it if you want a gooooood laugh. But today I had a tennis meet and I got first in #2 doubles. Pretty sure that Rachel, Carolyn, Lexi Beedy, and Allie Walker all got golds as well. Go team! Tell me what all of you are up to.

Would any of you like to go to Europe next summer with me?
I have contacted a student travel company to help me put together a Holocaust-related tour of Europe next summer. Would anyone be interested? We would have to meet soon and start figuring out how to raise/earn money to pay for it. Right now, it looks as though the itinerary would include Germany, Poland, Austria, and Holland.
What do you think?

I have an important favor to ask!
May I please borrow your vocabulary journals for the first two weeks or so of the school year? I would really like to show my new students samples of what I will expect them to create this year. I predict that parents who attend the Back-To-School night will want to see them, also. Please let me know how/when I can get my hands on your journals! My preference is that you drop it off at my house this week--you all know where I live! I would come pick it up, if that is easier. I will return them to you at Central.
THANKS!!!
THANKS!!!

Grease is SOLD OUT!!!!
Oh no!!! Grease is sold out for all of the shows this weekend. We can get on a waiting list if we are there at laeast one hour before the show. Since the show begins at 7:00, that means we need to be in line no later than 6:00 tomorrow night. The odds probably aren't good that we'll all get in, but it's worth a shot. Soooo--Tionna, Lindsay, Gabe, and Shelby--I'll see you at the Salina Community Theater at 6:00 tomorrow night. If we cannot get in, we'll go have dinner at Martinelli's, instead. We can come back to my house and watch a movie, if you want, until we can meet up with Max and Halie for dessert afterwards. How does this sound to all of you?
Advanced English 9 worries/concerns...
I am certain that there will be several sections of advanced English 9--your classes won't be especially large. You can bet they won't be as small as our cozy little class was last year, though! Our "Power of Eleven" will be spread out amongst several hours--you'll have to spread the good word about how much more you know than everyone else!
Book worries: I am certain that you will be asked to do some sort of analytical writing about your summer reading during the first week or so. Be prepared to discuss your book in class, then write about it independently. I know that if I were the 9th grade English teacher, I'd make you do all of the writing in class. Be prepared for that. YOU ONLY HAVE TO READ ONE of the two books offered.
Please discuss here.

Friday, Aug. 8--We're going to Grease"!!
I will purchase a block of tickets (which each of you can then reimburse me for--sorry...) for FRIDAY, AUGUST 8 for everyone who leaves me a note here on this blog telling me they want to attend! Please let me know by WEDNESDAY, AUG. 6. I will purchase the tickets on that day.
I am going to send new blog invitations to the people who rarely/never post comments on the blog. If any of you wish to use additional contact avenues, be my guest.

book talks
I was getting caught up on the blog this evening, and I see that several threads of discussion have touched on books, so I am officially moving that discussion HERE.
Check in and tell us what you've been reading, then give it a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down." I trust you'll be much more creative with your rating systems than thumbs, however.
I am really pushing "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. If you like drama and mystery, you'll enjoy it! If you enjoy romance, you'll LOVE it. If you like science fiction/fantasy, you'll love it. If you like reading about fabulous high school aged characters--many of whom drive the best cars--you'll get a kick out of this book. Harry Potter movie fans--FYI: one of the main characters in Twilight is a vampire named Edward Cullen, and the actor portraying him is Rob Pettin-something-or-other--the incredibly gorgeous actor who played Cedric Diggory.
Goodbye everyone!
I'm leaving for vacation tomarrow! (7/9/08)
But I will be back in like 9 days!
Bye!

Happy Independence Day!
Take a moment and search your memory files for information you remember about the birth of our nation from our study of Johnny Tremain.
There--that's enough time!
I hope everyone has a SAFE and FUN-FILLED Fourth of July. I probably won't do anything special during the day, but I'm planning to be at the country club for dinner and fireworks in the evening. What about the rest of you? Check in and tell us how your holiday went.
Hugs and Sparklers ( too bad they're illegal in Salina!!)

Hey--we need to hear from Carolyn, Allison, Rachel, Nathan, and Kris!
Nathan--you were the very first person to accept my invitation to the blog; let's hear from you!
Carolyn--you need to come back! I think you've blogged just once. Same with Rachel.
Allison--wherrrrrre arrrrre you?
Kris--I told your mother the other evening that you need to check in. Get to it!
If any of the rest of you can give these people a nudge, poke, buzz, or whatever, then do it! We're not really "to the power of eleven" if all eleven of you aren't conversing.

Shall we set a date for Grease?
I am ready to set up our field trip to Grease. When are the dates, exactly? Thank you, Halie, for the tip about the carnival. We'll want to do that, too, don't you think? We should also purchase a block of tickets, so that we can sit together. Let me know your preferences.
Should we picnic in the park for dinner ahead of time, or do you want to meet at a restaurant?

Blogging?
Ummmm... Why does this site take me to people from the Phillipines and Malaysia and India when I click on something from my page? Does this mean someone from China could come hunt me down in Salina? I thought this was suppose to be just our class??? Please answer. So many questions about all this technology.
Howdy there!!!
Hi everyone. This is Tionna on June 23. So far my summer has been boring :(. But I went to the River Festival. I didn't get to go to the Shakesphere Festival but I'll just go next year. I totally think we all should go to GREASE to support Halie and Max! However, I really hope it is better than THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK (which I am MOST POSITIVE OF!). Hope everyone else is having an exciting and fun-filled summer..... but remember: BLOGGING IS FUN AND ALL SHOULD BE DOING IT TO STAY IN TOUCH! Happy Summer (yesterday was the first day!). We also sheared all 5 of our beautiful llamas last Friday night. They are soooo skinny and the 1- year-old looks like a big dog! Even though I wasn't there, I heard the big one was like a rodeo :)!

Hello to All!
Well I saw that Mrs. Mammen said we could start a new post so I decided to give it a try! We need to get everyone on here because we are missing half of our class! Have any of you started your Advanced English reading yet?

River Festival Begins!
Today is Friday, the first full day of River Festival. I am volunteering at the Fine Arts section, so stop by the info booth over on that side and say hello. If I'm not there, my hubby probably is, so you can say hello to him, instead.
So far today I've chatted and hugged on Halie-and-Lindsay (I've decided to type their names as one name when I see them together. I think they've adopted on another as sisters. :)), Shelby, Allison, and Rachel.
Max--how come I haven't seen as much of you as I was expecting? Stop by my front porch sometime--I figured you and Noah would be burning up a trail between your new house and Sonic, so it would be so natural to stop by! Derius could probably find some chores for you to do, if you need a little pocket money.
Make sure to post a comment or two every time you check the blog. This site won't work if we're not chatting when we check in!
Hugs,
Mrs. M
